A Guide to Natural Skincare Products
When looking for natural skincare products I look for a company that
cares about health. When I want natural, I am not looking for a
product that contain harsh chemicals or synthetic substances. I
want the real elements that nature provides.
The one synthetic product I choose to avid is parabens, which you
won’t find in true natural skincare products. There are
controversial studies about parabens. Some studies say they are ok
and others say they are bad. I usually don’t focus on the negative
things in life, but when it comes to my health, I tend to look on the safety side and in the case of parabens, I
steer clear of skincare products that contain them.
Here are a couple reports that I read that explain why I am choosing
to caution on the safe side and buy natural skin care products. In
the July 2002 issue of the Archives of Toxicology, Tokyo Metropolitan Research Laboratory of Public Health
reported exposure of newborn male mammals to butylparaben “adversely affects the secretion of testosterone and
the function of male reproductive system.” So the question here is,
why would any male want to take the risk of messing with the reproductive system of their body?
In a report by the US Environmental Protection Agency entitled
“Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products in the Environment” Agents of Subtle Change?” reports that the
chemical preservatives called parabens – methyl, propyl, butyl, and ethyl- displayed estrogen like activity in
several tests. The hormone estrogen is known to have a role in
breast cancer, so the question here is, why would anyone want to rub this stuff on their skin where it can be
absorbed into the body through the skin’s pores, putting them at risk for breast cancer?
When I can find natural skincare products that do a great job at moisturizing my skin, I will choose
those over products that contain parabens. There are 100% free
paraben products out there that will cleanse, moisturize, tone, and replenish my skin naturally.
Some ingredients I look for in my natural skincare products
are:
- Natural Vitamin
E (Alpha-tocopherol) an antioxidant which helps to reverse the effects of aging, by reducing the appearance
of fine lines and wrinkles, and also helps prevent the appearance of age spots.
- Maracuja is a
special passion fruit extract, unique to Brazil. It is an
emollient which help to revitalize your skin and give it a smooth velvety feel.
- Grapeseed Oil is
a powerful antioxidant, which creates an invisible film on your skin to keep moisture in. It is good for repairing the skin around the eyes and helps to reduce
stretch marks on the skin.
- Shea Butter is
used to soften the skin and soothes inflamed skin. Shea butter
absorbs rapidly without leaving a greasy feeling.
- Active Manuka
Honey is rich in antioxidants and stimulates the immune system. This is a great ingredient to look for in a night cream, because it will
help to restore and rejuvenate your skin while you sleep.
Look for these and other healthy alternatives when you shop for your natural skincare products.
